Put what you want to lock up, push the dial down, set the amount of minutes, hours, days, and that's it.Some reviews say you can break into it, well, of course you can. If you want something you can't break into, get a safe. This is made out of thick plastic and if you hit it with a hammer, it will break.Anyway, the timer works well and it releases just how it is supposed to.It's not terribly big so if you want something larger locked it, this isn't your best bet. However, if you want a pack of cigarettes, keys to certain padlocks, or even a toy that is played with too much, this is a great way to regulate it.If you choose, you can add time to the timer as well. So, for example, if your spouse says you can't have that item (whatever that item is) for 24 hours and you do something wrong, as punishment they can increase the time for another 24 hours - up to 9 days, 23 hours, and some odd minutes (I don't remember the exact amount, but just shy of 10 days.)There is no way to reduce the time so if time is increased, you are stuck with it.There are unlimited ways this could be used in a home. Maybe a phone, a favorite game, or whatever. This is a solid purchase, and you should have no worries.I hope this review was helpful. This product is a game changer for my tech addictions. I have trouble with self-control on my phone. Accessing apps, watching videos, checking the time, receiving messages and the like can be an overwhelming distraction. Since getting this bad boy my temptation to misuse my phone is more easily addressed. Here is how the product works:Step 1: Take off the lid and put your item inside.Step 2: Turn the dial on the lid until it reaches your desired time limit.Step 3: Press in the dial and watch the display countdown until it locks. There is a five second countdown where you can press the dial in to cancel the locking feature.Step 4: Wait. Once this thing is locked, it is locked. There is no way to open this box without breaking it.That the box locks until the timer goes off is my favorite feature on this thing. I LOVE IT. It means that once my phone is in I am not as tempted to find a way to take it out. I can just accept that it is gone for now and go outside for a walk (phoneless walks are relaxing) or play with my kids or read a paperback book, etc.The only two drawbacks I can identify are:1) I got the mini, and it almost didn't fit my phone. It is exceptionally small and because of this I would recommend buying a larger box.2) The display is always on. It does not draw much power and I can always take the batteries out, but I wish that the display would shut off when the box timer is not in use.3) The price is really high for such a simple device. I am surprised that other companies are not making a cheaper version of this device. In any case, this is a fantastic device for those wanting to experience freedom from whatever addictions fit into a small box. I would buy this again.I like that it locks away stuff but the hardest part is putting things in there such as my phone I have to do something else I put my phone in there for 30 minutes I realize I need my phone for something else it’s time to wait my title you need self control I feel you need self control to put your items in the safe just what I do is tell myself I need to get this done in (whatever amount of time) and I need no distractions and put my phone in on a preset timer put it in the safe press the button and now waitThis is EXACTLY what I’ve needed for years. Not going to lie, if you’re using it to regulate usage of a prescribed medication, you should be golden. If you are using it to curb a full blown active addiction … you’re going to break it. Full stop. HaIn another life, I was in the lock box, not the other way around lolIf you’re trying to quit a bad habit, or you just need to force yourself into having some space from a phone, sugary snacks, or a substance that you’re addicted to, this box is perfect! I got it to help wean myself off of nicotine, and it has been a lifesaver. Highly recommend - easy to use, easy to set up, and has worked reliably since I got it. It seemed a bit pricey at first, but compared to the other products on the market, this one is so much better. You can set it up to multiple days, hours, or minutes, and you can adjust the timer while it’s running, if you want to add time to the clock. This thing is amazing. I've struggled with procrastination for years and nothing worked for me. I read books on it, I tried to come up with rewards for myself, tracked my productivity etc. etc. Nothing really worked for long. This does. There's no hyped up exclamation mark on that sentence. It's a statement of fact. This worked for me when nothing else did. I wish it had been invented when I was a kid.I have a work computer and a personal computer. The work computer has no games or anything like that on it. The personal computer does. When I first started using this, I locked my personal computer's hard drive in this thing for increasing periods. Before long I lost interest in playing games for the most part, and I spend my evenings studying now.I now supplement this with some software solutions which use the same concept rather than taking the hard drive out, but I still use this as my cell phone jail during study time. The key to it is to lock down whatever your vice is at night and don't release it until the next day at whatever time you've already had your productive time for the day. Then, when it releases, you can enjoy it guilt free and lock it up again the next night. For things like cell phones though, I just use it for short periods, so I will study for an hour or so, check messages on the phone, and then lock it back up for the next hour for short little breaks. This is one of the best things I've ever purchased and I could not recommend it more highly.I have many afflictions that I have to use medication for. This helps me stay in line and not get into it. Amazing product . ? I love it and has changed my life! This thing is an awesome, intuitive design, and i'm a fussy bugger. However, using a knife as a lever this plastic is designed to sheer fairly easily (only when abused). This allows the lid to be lifted. It's not the type of plastic that withstands vandalism. I'm looking for a steel version of this. Because even when I'm drunk I'm not likely to go to the workshop and get an angle grinder out in the middle of the night...Spoiler - Time Automatically resets to 15 minutes when you pull the batteries out and put them back in.You can access the batteries from the outside, so it's so simple to circumvent the lock. Just pull the batteries out and then put them back in and it automatically resets the timer to 15 minutes and then it opens. I can appreciate the need to reset the timer if something goes afowel, but it shouldn't default to 15 minutes, it should default to several hours at-least. Took my 9 year-old 2 minutes to figure it out. He thought it was hilarious and I had a hard time defending it. What could I say?The documentation indicates you should contact them if you lock it by accident and need access. Spoiler - I expect the "secret" is to pull the batteries. For me my main addiction is my phone, however I like how the product is so versatile that you can use it to store other items to which you are addicted. The following are my review points:Pros:1) It's large enough to store a good quantity of items (in my case I could store multiple devices in there)2) It's easy to use, just turn the knob to set the timer, click it to start the process (5 seconds) which allows you time to cancel it in case you've made any mistakes.3) The timer can go up to days as well!! Although I would probably just need it for a max of half a day :)4) It has a nice sleek design and has various colored tops, so at least it has an appeal factor on top of it's performance quality.5) One major thing I was really impressed with is that I found out you could remove the batteries whilst the box is locked, so I thought that this may be a huge potential flaw in the item but upon removing the batteries the box was still locked and when I put them back in the timer didnt reset, it simply resumed as if nothing happened. I'm very impressed with that.6) The box seems very durable, although I'm not stupid enough to pry it open or break the product which I've spent considerable money on xD, so I'm assuming if you accidentally dropped it it will remain intact.7) And finally, yes it has actually helped me reduce my iphone usage especially during evenings where I would spend hours and harm my sleep as a result, thus enabling me to engage in more value adding activities.Cons (potential recommendation points):1) Batteries as the power source. So that means you have to be well-stocked on batteries (although I'm not sure what the power consumption of the device is) which essentially means there is maintenance costs and time involved.2) There is no power-off button which I'm dissapointed in, I mean most devices (even battery powered ones) have an off-switch xD! So how I resolve that is by literally removing the batteries from the device to prevent unnecessary usage of the batteries when I'm not using it.3) Would love to see future models which can be recharged instead of relying on batteries. That would be great, would definitely invest in that, even if it's slightly priced higher.
